Service Image

Our hospital offers state of the art in-house laboratory equipment as well as digital radiology (X-Ray) and ultrasound services to provide rapid and accurate results for our patients.

We offer a full array of microscopy, cytology and hematology services.

Our in-house point-of-care diagnostics are built around industry leading IDEXX analyzers.

Our system communicates with itself and our electronic medical records to ensure that our medical records are integrated and results are easily shared.

  • ProCyte Dx analyzer gives us access to reference laboratory-quality results so that we can recognize even the most subtle changes in a complete blood count (CBC).
  • Catalyst One analyzer allows us to run blood chemistries, electrolyte, and many immunoassay profiles.
  • SediVue Dx Urine Sediment Analyzer gives us the ability to evaluate urine samples to accurately diagnose crystals, bacteria, blood particles, and other abnormalities with high-resolution images to help remove human error for extremely accurate urine tests
  • SNAP Pro analyzers automate many of our rapid screening tests such as heartworm, Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, Parvovirus, Ehrlichiosis, Feline Leukemia, and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus.

Vetscan ImagystAnother revolutionary instrument in our lab is our Vetscan Imagyst from Zoetis Diagnostics.

The Imagyst is an automated microscope that uses AI-powered technology to quickly give us results. It provides accurate answers in dermatology and cytology. For example, we can draw cells from a mass and use the Imagyst to get us board certified pathologist reports within hours

The Imagyst has also been a game changer for the detection of intestinal parasites. More than just a "fecal test," we centrifuge every sample to achieve extremely accurate results for detecting intestinal parasites. We have been amazed by the increased sensitivity in detecting parasites from the standard fecal tests used in most veterinary facilities. Once we brought in this method of testing, we saw an approximately 10X increase in the detection of parasites from the former, commonly used methods of testing. This is extremely important because ensuring that are patients truly are "worm free" protects not only them but the families who love them.

Some of the many in-house tests that we regularly perform at The Hometown Veterinarian include

  • CBC
  • Blood Chemistries and Electrolytes
  • SDMA for Early Detection of Kidney Disease
  • Progesterone
  • Thyroid Testing
  • Phenobarbital Levels
  • Urinalysis
  • Cytology
  • Semen Analysis for Breeding

We have access to industry-leading reference labs.

When a patient needs testing that is just not available in-house, we select and partner with trusted outside labs such as IDEXX, Iowa State University's Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, and VPS (Veterinary Pathology Services) to ensure rapid and accurate results for our patients.
